Best of Anime 2016: OVA

OVA’s (Original Animation Video), are basically one off or “episodic” parts to an anime series released in Blu-rays. Like specials they expand on the story whether it be into greater detail of some sections, providing a different perspective or adding on to the end of a series. OVA’s provide to be some of the best one off content seen in anime today, as they are generally a condensed bundle of what the whole season in anime was. This year in anime saw some great series get OVA’s, with small additions to the series, these one-off episodes added towards the characters personality’s which were a great extension to the franchises as a whole. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku OVA – ‘A Date? Yes!’

“Isn’t it like a girl to be a bit cunning?”

2 3

Yahari takes the top spot this year, with a focus on a different character within the series being, Isshiki Iroha. All of the hi-jinks that made Yahari a well rounded series are back, whether it be Hikigaya’s cynical personality or Iroha’s energetic yet deceptive personality the two blended well together. Rather than trying to solve difficult “youth” based problems, it ended up being a more relaxing, focusing on the relationship between the 2, which was a nice change up in pace towards the series.

Runners Up:
