Best of Anime 2016: Movie

When it comes to movies, they are basically either anime series summed up in a certain time limit (usually 1hour to 1 hour 30 minutes), a standstill story by itself, or a story that either furthers or tells us more about what happened. All of the different types have their own standards, where it is important for them to make sure the plot is direct and that viewers can immerse themselves easily. Movies that further on a story or tell another side already have a basis or structure, making it easier to attract an audience. This year in anime movies provided those as additional material to already existing series. These stories provided more information about each respected series expanded universe, where it offered created a lot of added depth towards the series characters. With that being said:

Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen – ‘Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade’

Kizumonogatari’s 1st movie takes the top spot this year in movies. Being an essential prequel to all of the monogatari anime series, it created a back story for that of the main character Araragi Koyomi. With this set up, it allowed for some added depth into the why and how of the whole storyline, exploring its origins and how it all came to be. It was also nice too see that there were some added bonuses in the thrilling, dramatic scenes provided, not usually seen in the series. However, the core strength of its dialogue still remains keeping it entertaining in both serious and comical ways.
