Best of Anime 2016: Shounen

The shounen anime genre is generally aimed at those within the younger male audience (generally from elementary to high school). During this time, we learn about different things within the world, as well trying to figure out who we are as a person. The shounen genre adds much to those who watch anime, to become more of something than just a general person. We learn from shounen anime, through its tension and drama that through training and development we can overcome our adversaries. Despite not being able to produce magical abilities or use special moves, the genre adds for a place to escape realism and relax from our everyday busy lives. This year the shounen genre actually put on quite a showing. With many anime, focusing on special moves or scenes that explode with the characters personality it allowed for some exciting watches. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Fairy Tail (2014) – ‘A Magical Journey’

“I’m fired up”

2 3

2016 saw an end to Fairy Tail’s proverbial 2nd season. With a continuation of all that fairy tail goodness, it takes the top spot for shounen anime this year. From its epic moments where characters are on the brink of losing, then miraculously gaining power via a lesson they learned or from a comrade, it created excitement and a joyful watch every episode. This being combined with all the flashy and different kinds of magical powers and abilities, made it fun to watch.

Runners Up:
