Best of Anime 2016: Romance

When it comes to romance, the easiest explanation for it is the concept of love. Many different anime have demonstrated love, in a variety of different forms. As most anime take the “normal” route, depicting the protagonist falling in love with another character, there are however, other niches such as harems and reverse harems. This year brought us a lot of anime of a certain kind, mainly that of the straightforward, “innocent-fist-love” kind. With this taking hold of the genre, we saw a lot of yet to be formed couples and characters figuring out their feelings. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Nijiiro Days – ‘First Love Quartet’

“Along with… my first love”

2 3

Nijiiro Days also takes the top spot for a pure Romance anime this year. With the 4 different couples in high school there were bounds to be a ton of interactions between the characters. With it being set in a high school it provides more of that “innocent” romance, in which people first experience with their “first love”, the feelings before a relationship and the way people try to get their feelings across. This dynamic allowed for its fair share of romantic moments between the characters albeit unique to each of their own personalities and situation.

Runners Up:

2) Momokuri
3) Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut
Special Mentions: Macross Delta, ReLIFE
