Best of Anime 2016: Mecha

When it comes to mecha the most common thoughts and perceptions are big robots that will either fight each other or some alien life form. This year in mecha anime mainly gave us mecha specialized around a certain character. This lead to a lot of variability in the skillset and types of mecha/robots in which were piloted. Still these machines were used for fighting, and it was nice to see this year, the variation in the time or age in which they were used, whether it be the past, future or fantasy setting. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Heavy Object – ‘Never Gave Up’

“I love you, baby.”

2 3

Heavy Object gave a different variant of mecha than giant robots. With a majority of the “objects” being well grounded and used to replace human fighting during war times. The concept around these mecha, involved more of the mechanics of these huge mechanical beasts. With a lot of exposure into how they worked and operated, along with their weaknesses allowed for a more scientific view into the different variants of mecha within the anime. This created a unique interpretation of the genre, whereby rather than flashiness and lasers it was a refreshing taste of gunpowder and explosives.

Runners Up:

2) Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut
