Best of Anime 2016: Historical

With what happens in the past, the historical genre offers a lot of variety in which a story can be told. Through looking back we can learn about our previous origins, and now the world has shaped in order to become what it is today. Though, a lot of historical anime does focus more around action and war. This year in anime the historical genre offered more than it usually does, with fighting being the main highlight of telling the tales of those who lived in the past. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Drifters – ‘Na Na Na Na Na Na’

“Everything in this world should be burned to ash.”

2 3

Drifters takes the top spot this year. When it comes to the historical genre, sending well known historical figures into an alternate world to fight each other ended up being a pretty good premise. It allowed for the ability to see how these people fought, and the underlying possible values and desires they have and how they clash. At times it was bloody and brutal and times, well thought out and carefully planned. Possibilities were answered in this anime, and that’s why it takes number 1 for Historical anime this year.

Runners Up:

2) Arslan Senki S2 – Fuujin Ranbu
3) N/A
