“Will humans become Gods? Or will God become human?”
When humanity is pushed to the brink of its existence and the world has been overrun by monsters known as Aragami, it creates the world and setting of God Eater. We follow our main character, Utsugi Lenka and his journey to destroy and kill all of the Aragami, a path of revenge and learning, discovering why he has became this sought of person, and where that will lead him.
God Eater provides a great setting for action to occur. The fights between the God Eaters and Aragami are choc full of different moves, explosions and blood. With everything flowing so well together within scenes, it creates for battles that are tense and thrilling to watch. The animations complemented the scenes very well with the right use of color and speed of the sequences, to further emphasize what was occurring.
This was also partnered well with background story’s to most of the characters where we discover the reasons why they became God Eater’s and how those experiences affect them today, in the persons they are. We are also provided with other backgrounds such as how aragami became to be and how one researcher, Johannes Von Schicksal now is the leader of the resistance and his plans for humanity. This leads to a lot of drama between the characters not just learning how they fit but also figuring out how to overcome the barriers placed upon them in order for the protection and forwarding of humanity.
Sakuya Best Girl!
OP/ED: The OP provided a hard rock based theme to add to the action and tension for the show, it provided a lot of energy, whilst also being in English and Japanese. The ED on the other hand was more of a ballad, focusing on a slower pace and the characters throughout the series. A combination of the 2 felt well fitted for the series as a whole. There were some special ED’s for specific episodes, these generally matched the more dramatic events occurring within the series with a slower ballad, very fitting.
God Eater Was it Good?
For a show that took a break half way through, it was quite easy to catch up and understand the whole premise of the show. The action scenes were great to watch, from explosions to slow motion scenes it provided a good sequence of events from one to another. Everything was well connected from, the dramatic scenes to the tense action ones, it flowed very well.
Recommendations: For a show that pits humanity against some form of monster, that is filled with action and drama for its characters, there are a variety of anime that are similar, thus I recommend the following:
- Shingeki no Kyojin
- Owari no Seraph
- Black Bullet
- Terra Formars
- Devil Survivor 2 The Animation
