“There’s no difference between the ordinary and the abnormal. If you ask me, even this situation is ordinary. But… ask me whether I like it or not, and I’m not sure if I could decide. If you’re gonna live anyway, your ordinary life should be somewhat fun, too. Since my desire is to lead a more cheery, enjoyable life. Is that wrong?”
With the end of the 2nd half of the Durarara series (Shou, Ten and Ketsu) comes a finale to the stories of those living their lives in Ikebukuro, whether it be someone who is obsessed with humans, to those who just want to mend and fix relationships, Durarara provides a amalgamation of stories, a story of stories.
With everything coming to a close, it provided for some tense scenes within the anime from week to week, learning about someones past in how that affects their actions today, and seeing those actions affect other characters was something to marvel at through the season. It led for excitement to occur every episode as each character (heaps of character development) was fleshed out in a correct manner, as we saw the state of Ikebukuro both flourish and fall into despair.
The character interactions themselves were probably some of the best in the series, choosing words carefully, trying to find answers of others without giving too much away, or just plainly using brute force to get them. It was a season that provided for a thrill ride, with questions later on whether not a character would live to the next episode. With this ending though, it provides closure to many of the different characters, albeit some more than others, however it felt right for each of them knowing that the city still exists and continues to move on after all the events that have occurred.
Saki Best Girl!
OP/ED: Keeping its consistency throughout the whole series is the OP and ED. With the OP focusing on the characters, and even a recap of the events in the previous episode. It provided for a good recap to remember what happened before (even better if you watch this on and off). The ED continued the theme of the characters being connected with each other from one to the next. Both provided a good rock based theme to the start and end of each episode.
Durarara!!x2 Ketsu was it Good?
The season provided a fitting ending towards the series, there was excitement generated in each episode every week, and expectations and questions for the next. With everything and every story that had occurred in the series it provided for some great character development as well as good drama to boot.
Recommendations: With an anime that is centralized around its characters, what they do and how they interact with each other, it provides for an anime full of development and drama, and thus I recommend the following:
- Durarara Previous seasons
- Durararax2 Shou
- Durararax2 Ten
- Mekaku City Actors (Kagerou Project)
- Mawaru Penguindrum
- Monogatari Series
