Best Anime of 2015: Opening

An Opening song in anime generally sets the tone for the show. It may do a variety of things with its animation, from portraying the main themes of the show, to just showing the characters. It is important that the song choice fit the anime, provided with either an energetic starting (for a show with lots of energy) or one that is slower and more elegant (for maybe one that’s more simplistic or melodramatic). This year in anime gave us a bunch of different ones, where probably all of them were well matched with the themes of their show. With that being said:

Deirii Raifu’s Pick:

Ultra Tower – Kibou no Uta (Shokugeki no Soma) – ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’

“I’ll go beyond the sky I gazed at”

Shokugeki no Soma’s OP Kibou no Uta takes the top spot this year. The OP provided a lot of energy for the show. It did very well in showing both the characters and of course the overall main theme of the anime, food. With all the bright colors and animations it was a sure hit to watch and listen to every time an episode aired.

Runners Up:

2) Amamiya Sora, Ozawa Ari, Aikawa Natsuki, Nomura Mayuka, Yamazaki Haruka, Nakamura Sakura – Saikousoku Fall in Love (MonMusu)
3) AKINO With Bless4 – Miiro (Kantai Collection: KanColle)
Special Mentions: KANA-BOON – Silhouette (Naruto Shippuuuden), YuiKaori – Ring Ring Rainbow!! (Joukamachi), Toshiyuki Toyonaga – Day you laugh (Durarara!!x2Ten), SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]Gemie – X.U (Owari no Seraph), Idol College – Ichizu Recipe (Shomin Sample), Man with a Mission – Database (Log Horizon 2nd Season), LiSA – Rally Go Round (Nisekoi:), Cinderella Project – Shine!! (The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls), Cinderella Project – Star (The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls), The Oral Cigarettes – Kyoran Hey Kids!! (Noragami Aragato), Gakuen Seikatsu-bu – Friend Shitai (Gakkou Gurashi), Luna Haruna – Kimiiro Signal (Saenai Heroine Sodatekata), 3-nen E-gumi Utatan – Jiriki Hongan Revolution (Ansatsu Kyoushitsu), Weaver – Kuchizuke Diamond (Yamada-kun), Ars Magna – Himitsu wo Choudai (Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa)

Roto’s Pick:

Gate: and thus the JSDF fought there – Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets – (GATE: Sore wa Akatsuki no you ni) – ‘I put on my robe and wizard hat’

“Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow”

When it comes to OP, usually they have to be rocked based allowing the audience to get pumped up. Sore wa Akatsuki no you ni is no exception to this trend, with the song doing it the best this year. What won me over was actually the animation sequences for the OP, as they made so much sense and matched with the melody of the song so well. The song itself is also terrific, as it’s about you being you and trying to achieve your goals.

Runners Up:

2) sweet ARMS – Blade of Hope (Shinmai Maou no Testament)
3) Ars Magna – Himitsu wo Choudai (Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa)
Special Mentions: Saori Hayami – Orange Mint (Tsukimonogatari)
