Best Anime of 2015: Fantasy

When it comes to fantasy, one may think of another world filled with different types of monsters, a world surrounded and enveloped in magic or one that thrives off the different races or “species” within it.  Fantasy is generally used to explore what doesn’t exist in reality, where great stories have been told throughout history about mythical creatures, gods and demons. Whether it contains something of the supernatural or is has more of a science-fantasy base, the fantasy genre has always been one where an infinite amount of ideas could be explored, making it a popular one. All of these come together in one way or another in the anime universe to create a bunch of great series that fit the fantasy genre, where this year in anime has not disappointed. With that being said:

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka ‘Can’t carry hard enough’

“FIREBOLT!”

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka (DanMachi) takes the top spot for fantasy this year. Throwing us viewers into a fantasy world based upon dungeons where “adventurers” enter to slay a variety of different monsters and take their loot in order to make money. The show offers a variety of different races in the world (though most are seen to be human), where there is somewhat of a “racial imbalance” in the world. It also contains a lot of game like supernatural elements such as stats, and other subtle references such as “classes (e.g. tank, dps, healer, support)”. The culmination of everything together makes the anime have a really strong fantasy vibe, and hears hoping to more in the future.

GATE is one of the best fantasy anime I have seen in the last couple of years. The idea of bringing new technology into a foreign world that is too advanced for that world is very intriguing. The main characters did not feel too overpowered (the guns made them overpowered), and were relatable. It was also enjoyable watching all the political machinations and power plays behind the series, ones in which you would never hear of in real life. GATE is an enjoyable fantasy anime and I recommend it for all.
