When mystery’s occur there are questions are asked. Whether they have a lot of variety, very complex or very easy, these questions allow for a story to be told. The answer may be simple or it may lead to even more questions. This leads to a journey, and dependent on that journey, the mystery of it all can be deemed to be either good or bad. With that being said:
Deirii Raifu’s Pick:
Owarimonogatari – ‘Ka Ka Ka’
“No one knows what the future holds, because it’s as dark as the streets at night.”
Mysteries abound, the monogatari series has always been full of them. When it comes to solve the problems of girls out there in relation to oddities, you can’t go past the entire series. Owarimonogatari enforces all of its previous themes into, what has transpired this past season. From solving mysteries surrounded by a math riddle to those spanning over 400 years, sometimes with a complex or just a very simplest answer, Owarimonogatari gave us a variety of them to delve into as well as question some of the mysteries of human life and how things may be understood.
Runners Ups:
2) Gakkou Gurashi
3) Tsukimonogatari
Special Mentions: Durarara!!x2 Shou/Ten, Tokyo Ghoul √A, Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo, Rokka no Yuusha, Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru
Roto’s Pick:
Rokka no Yuusha – ‘I eat fiend babies’
“I’m going to kill you now, okay?”
In terms of mystery, Rokka no Yuusha was really the only standout this year. Rokka dominates this genre, keeping the viewer guessing on what is going to happen and who each character truly is from week to week. Whilst watching, I found myself coming to different conclusions each week about each character and where the story will go. Although unfinished, Rokka first season sets up a very good base for any upcoming seasons, with plenty of mystery plot questions left over.
Runners Up:
2) Durarara!! X2 Shou
3) Durarara!! x2 Ten

The monogatari series has to be one of the best in my opinion, so many different genres all in one great anime and I really enjoyed Yamada Kun and the 7 witches as well.
