“I’LL KILL THEM ALL”
Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou takes on more of a comedic and parody approach to the series of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). Set within a town and a school (junior high), it places the characters within Shingeki into a different lifestyle and setting. The spin-off is more lighthearted compared to its adaptation, whereby death and despair isn’t really a factor.
Of course following the life of Eren Yeager, the series places him in situations very similar to the original but with more laughter to be had. Rather than limbs flying everywhere, its titans stealing their food (like bullies), allowing for its silly side to come out. Events that occurred in the original were replaced by more comedic skits, though there was some tension added through suspense and a bit of drama, the spin-off shows its purpose and that is comedy over action.
The animation is more of a chibi art style, with many bright, soft and strong colors combined with music adapted from the original. It made it a bit nostalgic, combining it with all the references from Mikasa vs Annie to Jean trying to get Mikasa’s attention.
Annie Best Girl!
OP/ED: The OP and ED were different from the original were the OP started with similar animation but diverted to its comedic school based roots. Though the tune to both OP and ED were somewhat serious on comparison to its comedic animations.
Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou Was it Good?
In the end it is a spin-off and should be taken more lightly when compared to its original. It provided a bit of laughter and amusement, where the comedic acts of the characters were enough for satisfaction to be had whilst watching the series.
Recommendations: For a spin-off of comedic value, it’s hard to give recommendations as it is based entirely off one show, but if you wish for other spin-offs based on other shows, I recommend the following:
- Shingeki no Kyojin
- Rock Lee no Seishun Full Power-Ninden
- For Parodies/Comedy:
- Lucky Star
